Default Jump Breaks?

Do you use jump breaks in your blog posts? I'm unsure of what the bonuses might be to a jump break, other than to reduce the page space a single blog post would take up on the home screen.

The only other thing I could think of would that it might reduce your bounce rate by forcing someone to click to a new page in order to finish reading your post.

So how about you guys? Do you use them?

No, I don't As a reader, I've found that jump breaks usually just lose me. I'm less likely to read an article with breaks unless there's a REAL cliffhanger or unless the post is REALLY captivating.

I guess it could be an effective tool if used correctly. I've rarely seen it used well, though.

I also think it would serve its purpose well on a blog that's focused on a specific subject (like sports cars or Italian food) because readers who are interested in that subject could skim the home page and be exposed to a lot of articles all about the same topic.

But when people use them in more personal, reflective blogs, I just don't think they help out.

I agree with you. I haven't seen them used in too many blogs unless they have an established audience that will reliably click through the jump. I was just wondering if others had a different opinion on them.

I use jump breaks, mainly because I want to be able to display more posts on my front page without loading all the content. And it allows for easier browsing, I think.
