Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and to blogging. About a month ago I started my first blog on Tumblr. I love the features on the site and the customization offered. I don't like the community though. All you see is a bunch of reblogs of funny pictures on there. There's nothing wrong with that but that's not what I was looking for in a blog. Can you guys tell me either how to find more legitimate blogs on Tumblr or tell me what other blog sites have communities that are more about posting original content than reblogging other people's stuff? I'm considering trying out Blogger, is that a better option? Thanks (: |

I personally think that Blogger is awesome. It's a user friendly and great for beginners and such!

| I don't think there is...as far as I know it's either Blogs of Note or clicking the "Next blog" button for random blogs. I think Blogger should definitely come up with some sort of archive of blogs.

As far as blogger goes, using them can mean an abrupt end to your blog with no explanation. It has not happened to me personally, but people I know have had their blog shut down when they got it popular and they did nothing like spamming to make it happen. It's always best to self host. Pay for hosting which you can find for cheap and use Wordpress. If you have no traffic, you can also use a free host like byethost and install Wordpress on it. Either way, make regular backups so you don't lose everything after you put in so much hard work building it.

I always go for Wordpress. Then, as the blog gets bigger, I'd make it self-hosted.

Self host using wordpress, If you dont selfhost using wordpress you don't own the blog, you could make a very successful blog with blogger and start earning 10k a month, blogger can easily overtake your blog or just close it. Wordpress - Selfhost!!!!

I agree that using wordpress on your own domain is worth it. It will cost your $10/year for the domain and $5/month in hosting. However, it is much easier to build good backlinks to your own domain than a blogger or tumblr hosted URL. Wordpress also has a lot more features and plugins than Blogger. |
