I am thinking of entering into the world of blogging. What would be better? Shall I start blogging from scratch or shall I purchase a blog which is already exisiting? |

I'm confused. Why would you want to purchase a blog?

I think he thinks that purchasing a blog would retain the visitors visiting the same blog when managed by the previous guy.But I think, he should think about this too:If your blogging style is different from the guy who owned it previously, you may turn them off. For example, if I purchase fakesteve.net, I can tell you its gonna be doomed. |

It really depends on your motives. Another benefit to buying a domain name that's already established is that it already has a page rank, is recognized by search engines, already ranks in search results, has backlinks, etc. While the background work is already laid a bit, unless you're going to pick up with the same theme/style/topic/etc, it's often better to just start from scratch with your own angle.

Better to start from scratch. By all means get an aged domain name if you can but the blog ideally should be a fresh one. Followers of an old blog will notice the change in writing style so any chances of keeping them are limited unless you are really gifted at blogging

Getting both new and old has its own pros and cons. If you have the same or similar content with the old blog you're planning to purchase and you are okay with the layout/style of the blog, I think it's okay to buy it.

Hmm, I thought about your question for a little while. I think I would disagree with most everyone on here about not buying a "used blog". I buy websites all the time, but I think the key is to buy one that matches your personality as much as possible. It sounds like most replies think that you are going to buy a humor site and only write about horror. People can transition if it's not a large leap for them to do so. I think my blog in my sig shows that people can adapt to slight variations. We have 5 regular bloggers and the traffic comes about equal to each. So my opinion is YES if you can find one that you can be passionate about, one that relates to you, one that has age, pr, visitors then I see no point in not buying one and start with your own taste. Sure some die hards might leave but who cares, at least you are not starting from nothing. The point of blogging is to have fun and make a site reflect who you are and trying to reach people that care.
