I've had my blog for about 4 months I think. The first 2 or 3 months I got a handful of visitors a day and I didn't post very regularly. Then all of a sudden I got about 10,000 unique visitors in a week. Since then it's cooled off a little, but still around 500-1,000 per day with some days closer to 1,500 - 2,000. What got this started was social media sites. I started with a smaller site called D-Zone and got some good traffic there (it's specialized but much easier to be successful with than Digg or the big boys). From there a lot of people bookmarked some of my pages with Del.icio.us and Stumbled them. Now I get traffic from more sources, but Stumble Upon is consistently a good referral source.

i'm in the third month of keeping my blog, and although i think i've got the formatting and structure of my blog to my liking, i'm still struggling to increase readership. i've posted on various forums, played with sites like blog explosion, and left comments on others blogs, but still i'm only averaging about 50 unique visitors a day.
i think visually my blog stands out, and when people actually get there they seem to stick around a while to check out my original videos or other vids, posts, etc. the length of time (going by sitemeter) that readers spend on my blog is quite high. my question is, if my content seems decent, how do i get to the next step? or how can i attract more who would enjoy my blog. i post regularily, i'd love to get 1000 visitors per day. any tips for more traffic, something i should know about my blog/situation to improve? -L ps. i classify my blog as Entertainment as it's about my film school experiences and road to a professional career, but is there a way to avoid all those celebrity gossip blogs that are keeping my blog submerged?

The number of visitors you get is important, but more important is the percentage that convert to readers. Quote:
Does your analytics program give you information on keywords people use to get to your site? That would also give you some valuable information on what people are looking for. Jay |

Luke,
I agree with everything Jay said. For me Stumble Upon has brought a lot of traffic, and somewhat consistent too, not to the same pages everyday. Although the quality of that traffic isn't the highest, some one still convert to subscribers. I've also found networking to help. I've written several posts for other blogs that have each driven some traffic and subscribers. None of them alone have had huge results, but all of them added together has given me a nice, new bunch of readers. Keep focusing on the content and the traffic will come. 50 a day from a 3-month-old blog is not bad at all. |

thanks for the perspective guys, i guess in the grand scheme of things my blog is still pretty young and i should just keep at it. i'll also look into linking with other blogs like mine, that'll probably help too. good ideas.

Luke,
You're right, just stick with it. Most bloggers don't have the patience and persistence to get to where you want to be. With a little bit of time and some work you'll get there when so many others have fallen off. |

That's good.

I use both google analytics anf the Feedburner site stats, both are very accurate- and only differ by 1-2 uniques.
I have been averageing anywhere from 120-380 for the last 2-3 weeks, my blog is just over a year old, but didn't start having direct content until about 3 weeks ago when I gave up paid posts and started producing at least one pillar post a day, things are picking up |
