I have tried using WordPress but I don't like it because they start to ask me for money too soon. On Blogger it is completely free for the first 3 years, at least. Then they also asked me for money; but in a very subtle way: Every time I post a photo on my blog, Google quietly create a Picasa Web Album for me. This is done automatically, so that I used up by free allowance of 1 Gb, without feeling a thing! I cannot post any more photos after that and have to pay 5USD/year for another 20Gb storage space! |

I'll go for wordpress. Regret starting in Blogger. The migration is quite tough.

At this point I am going to have to say Blogger. I've used the self hosting version of wordpress before a couple years back. My wife wanted me to set her blog up. I went with blogger because it was quick and easy to use and intuitive for her. I dropped the money after I found she was staying serious with it for a domain through godaddy in case we ever migrate. Blogger is rather limited in the click and customize department. But I rarely click. Most of my dirty work is done through the code. And with that, blogger has done leaps and bounds for me. It took me a bit to get used to the whole label instead of category thing and some outside-the-box thinking on my part to wrap my head around it. But since I find it much more powerful. I'm going to start looking into migrating, mostly because I dont like google having control over MY blog that I put MY time and money into. But migrating is far down the road. There hasn't been one obstacle yet I havnt been able to overcome by recoding stuff yet. If push absolutely came to shove though to be honest, I wouldn't use either. I use Drupal as a good CMS when building websites for others so they can add, more, and do things on their own without recoding stuff of bothering me all the time. After seeing the power in Drupal I think it blows both wordpress and Blogger out of the water and adds so much more expansiveness. But that is either here nor there. Ultimately as your question pertains, I would go with Blogger. |

I have had experience with Blogger and Wordpress and I have to say they both have their pros and cons. Blogger is great in the sense that it is easy to use and that you are allowed advertising. Wordpress has an amazing platform with great features. However, Wordpress did not allow advertising until a while back with Wordads and they can shut down your blog whenever they feel the need. At the end of the day, I decided on moving to a self hosted blog and using wordpress as my blogging platform. I love it ! |

I currently use both and have to say Wordpress. Blogger allows for HTML encoding and ads to be installed right away while Wordpress makes you find a host to allow ads, HTML and other 'premium' services. However, in my opinion, Wordpress is by and far better.

One thing that's alarming about Blogger is that it is tied to your Google account; if something happens to your Google account, your blog goes with it. (It's a good idea to make a second Google account and give it admin permissions on your Blogger blog (or, admin a trusted friend). That way, if your main Google account is locked, your blog is still live and accessible.)
