Personal photo on blog

I try to keep as anonymous as possible, simply because it allows me the freedom to say what I really want to say. In that case, I use a simple logo (I suck at graphic design :P ) instead of a photo as my avatar. Seems to work fine for me.

I think having a picture is really important for professional bloggers. People feel a stronger connection to a blogger when they know what they look like. Putting a human face behind the content provides people with an image of who they're reading.

An alternative that I've seen many do is to use a cartoon type avatar representing them. I'm not really down with that method though.

I wonder if this is a personality type thing? I can't even get my mind around why anyone would care what a blogger looks like. But I'd guess that you'd have trouble getting your mind around why someone wouldn't care?
