Default Rigid Structure or Free and Open?

I've been making some changes to my blog lately, and I decided that it would make it harder for me to keep skipping posting if I had specific subjects for specific days.

For example, I decided to assign a day to each of the five categories I regularly use, and then have two days with lower content: one will be a copy of five hilarious tweets from that day from my followers, the other will be a link to a blog article I liked.

Doing it this way will be harder to casually "skip" a blog post, since it throws my whole rotation off, and I think the new more "interactive" post days could generate some traffic down the line.

So what are your opinions, do you feel a rigid daily structure is a good way to keep things organized, or like to just whatever you feel like whenever you feel like?

I prefer the rigid daily structure. But that's just me. I know people who do well with their blogs by being more spontaneous in their postings. But if you are like me, a rigid daily structure keeps things organized and consistent.

Anything that helps you grow your blog and adds value to your visitors is good. I believe that "rigid" vs "flexible" is a question of personal preference, nothing else. Do what works for you.

I agree with the above, try it for a few days. See if it works well for you. There is no point in having daily posts if their quality isn't what your spontaneous posting is like.

So far I like it much better since the specific day topics are still loose enough to mess around with. As thought, it also makes me feel incredibly guilty about skipping a day so my posting stays good and regular.

If you have commitment and procrastination issues, I highly recommend considering a similar format idea.

Sometimes, trying to maintain a post schedule can force your words, and the quality can deteriorate. Then pressure results, and you might not be happy. I work late most nights, so I usually save up all my good stuff for Web/Thurs, and just do "quickies" throughout the rest of the week. Meat and potatoes on my days off, veggies every other day as needed.

I totally agree with this. I find it really hard to keep up with things when I'm having an off day unless I'm holding myself to a schedule. But I tend to get lazy, and then I get stuck.

Whatever works for you, really. If having a schedule is going to turn you off writing, then obviously it's not for you. But if it'll help keep you motivated and working, then it's worth a try.
