I recently wrote an article on "How To Get Involved In Politics" and I wanted to start a little experiment testing all the different suggestions that you guys/gals may have to improve SEO and better traffic in general. I wanted to keep the Keyword as "how to get involved in politics" even though there may be a lot of results for that already. That way: 1. I can focus on a very specific phrase 2. I think we can get very narrow results with less data to analyze. I am very new at this and when I read all the suggestions it is a bit overwhelming. I thought it would be cool to take suggestions and I would try them the best I could (I have a day job..lol) and see what works, then we could prioritize them and make a little step by step guide to start getting traffic from google, yahoo, and anywhere else.:-) I will be posting traffic results regularly to show progress. There will be no ads on my site during this experiment...I didn't want people to think this was just a money making thing. Like I said I am new so if you give a suggestion and its very bland in description, I may screw something up ![]() So basically I need good thorough suggestions to get this kicked off. I hope this thread takes off so we can all benefit from this.

Well I thought I would start of by trying to get some backlinks. Now, I was gonna just post of forums and other blogs. I would assume that the more popular the website i have a dofollow link on the better for me? Also, should I link my main page or the article? As of right now Im linking the article.

Your article is titled "get involved in politics", but I think that a more accurate title that matches the article would be "get informed about politics". When I hear "get involved in..." I think of things like joining a campaign as a campaign worker, maybe even running for a minor office. So to me, your phrase doesn't match your article.

But actually that was my point. To be involved in politics Americans do not have to campaign or run for office, they just simply have to write their congressman. But you gave me an idea to edit the article a bit. ![]() Would you like to to suggest anything getting some traffic that you would like me to try?

Although Maybe I could of titled it "How an everyday American can get involved in politics" With that said, if you wirte and stay in contact with your politicians and let them know how you feel, you are involved. Writing them is not getting informed. Im glad you gave me the critique, I now know I need to restructure some things in the article maybe add a paragraph or two, so no one is confused. Anyway thanks for you time, and if you can think of anything later feel free to share

rethink the phrase. While its a good one, you'll have users going for "getting involved in politics" or "getting in to politics" - those will yield your results...but i agree, the title is kind of off. i feel like its a bit misleading (stat-whoring if i can be more rough) how about key phrases like "how to change your government" - its still kind of off, but its more on the right track. you can swing the "every suggestion matters" route. |

Good on you for 1 - being willing to experiment and 2 - being willing to post the results back here. SEO is not an exact science, well it is for Google but not for us. By that I mean Google have access to the algo and all of the factors - we dont, so we have to make a lot of guesses. Heres a simple example. You get an extra backlink to your article. Your ranking on Google goes up one position. Did you go up becuase of the backlink or just because the article had aged? Had you made any other changes to the page, or even the site? What I'm saying is that there are so many factors its very hard to know sure exactly what works and what doesn't. But, if you experiment enough, you will get a feel for what works and what doesn't. I look forward to seeing how you get on and the results! |

Ok, first update. I submitted the article to ezinearticles.com (Here) and it got listed a few days ago. So today I searched Google "how to get involved in politics" and the article came up 5th on page one. See that Here Now, the good and the bad: The good, its nice to see some of your content come up on a Google search. The bad, I haven't received one hit from ezinearticles. Which could mean, not very many people search the phrase "how to get involved in politics" or, not very many people are clicking my site link on the article page. Either way no big deal, I think I got a good backlink out of it. I have been trying to put together a backlink strategy, I have just been doing research. It's hard to find articles where people give you viable info instead of just promoting something. And here is the traffic so far
