Like other have said, never use twitter to spam - you will just alienate people fast. Twitter is so personal, people want to see you - the real you. That is why I have just decided to register an account (London Geek Girl (Londongeekgirl) on Twitter) to let all of my future readers see what I am doing. Please follow me if you like what you see on my new blog (link below) lgg xxx |

Twitter IS about being a real person. You'll only be able to effectively promote your blog with when you develop twitter relationships with others who are interested in your topic. But first, you have to show that you're a real person. (I am @sbuxmel at twitter - but I'm no expert. @unmarketing is the twitter guru)

I've used twitter for a long time now. As long as I've been blogging. As a result, my blog traffic is very closely tied to how I use twitter. Is there a quick and easy way to drive a lot of traffic to your blog using twitter? I don't think so. I look at twitter as an extension of my blogs community, and vice versa. How long does it take you to build relationships with your blog readers? Exactly. I maintain two main accounts. On my personal account @DavidSpinks, I grew my following 100% organically...meaning I never followed just to be followed back and I never used any sort of system or service for generating more followers. I just engage, and share content, and the people who find that valuable will follow. Quick? No. Effective? Hell yes. On our sites account I've done a bit of both. The site is Scribnia.com and the account is @scribnia. Since it's a site for bloggers, I used twitter to follow a lot of different bloggers and so many of them followed back. The thing is, the people that automatically follow you back, provide you with literally NO value or traffic. They just boost your twitter self esteem a little bit by adding a follower number. So in the end, in order to use twitter effectively, you can't rely on building a quick audience and driving them to your site. You have to provide valuable content, and let the followers grow organically. Will be glad to chat more if you have any other questions. Feel free to connect with me on twitter. I love to promote other bloggers' work with the @Scribnia account. David Community Manager, Scribnia.com |
