Yeah that is the problem with low competition niches. They often aren't very glamorous.

Would you be willing to narrow the "dog" field down to specific breed, say "black lab blog" You will narrow down the topic, but keep with the dog theme, some of your current readers will still be wanting to read your new blog.

Instead of a general dog blog, I would like to find a great niche with minimal competition from the start and use a keyword rich domain name.

What do you think?

I've got it - the perfect niche for your existing blog:

jj from momscashblog.com stopped by my site and left the following comment. I found the idea interesting..

"Just came across your blog here via looking at a forum, where you mentioned that you might give up this site and start a new one! As I said this is my first time here, but if you had asked for my opinion I would tell you to stick with it. I think it’s a great domain name, and in all honesty if you wanted it could be made into a blog about any topic… if dogs could read then they might tell congress that the health care system just isn’t working. Do you get what I’m trying to say or show you… I could be way off here but I think or know you could go in any direction “IF” you feel like you’ve pigeon holed yourself with a dog blog. Good luck with whatever decision you pick, but I just wanted you to know I like your blog."

What do you guys think about opening "if dogs could read" to other areas than just a dog blog?

Thanks to all of you for your comments. They are greatly appreciated!!

It would seem to me as if you were attempting to mask your personal opinions on topics by making dogs say it. BUT...I think if you wanted to you could take that advice and make a humorus dog blog. I would be careful about the topics, but thats just my opinion...
