Default Paid WP theme vs free one

I have searched far and wide for a WP theme template that suits my new cooking blog. I have come up with 1 that is not even that good.

I did come across some WP themes that cost between $45-60 that are soooo much better looking. Has anyone else paid for a template for their blog? My goal is to write and actually make money, so the price isn't much of an issue because I think this website will be great.

One of the biggest problems with the freebies, is that they seem to only have a few categories to place posts. When you are blogging about cooking you need LOTS of categories.

For anyone who has paid for a WP theme, do they live up to their cost? Is it worth it to spend the money now for something that will grow with me? I learned that lesson the hard way with my other blog - I had to switch gears a few weeks into the process and copy and paste into my new look.

Thanks

If you are serious about it then it can definitely be a good idea to buy a paid theme. Such themes are usually already SEO optimized and they are much more flexible, with control panels so that non-programmers can easily customize them and add functionality.

Don't be too hasty though. If I were you I would explore the different themes available before picking one. Make sure that they have a video or something showing what the theme looks like on the backside. A good theme worth buying should have demo videos, screenshots and should be very customizable.

That is why themes such as Thesis and others are very popular.
