Hi there, I have a background in IT but I'm afraid I'm completely new to blogging... I have an existing website and I am looking to add a blog to a new page within that site, if that is possible?! Someone suggested wordpress to me but my site is hosted on a windows server and it seems getting a MySQL database is out of the question. So....what are my alternatives? I want to have the blog within a new page on my existing domain....e.g: www . mysite . co . uk/blog ...and not on a new domain or a subdomain...is that possible? Hope that's all clear?! Thanks a lot in advance, Matt |

That should be quite possible. Of course it would be easiest if you had a traditional host with CPanel, from which installing WordPress should usually be a one click job. With your windows server there must be some way to install MySQL. I've installed MySQL on windows servers before. But those servers were running Apache on top of windows. If I were you I would ask the server owner about setting up MySQL. If that isn't possible then the server you are trying to use is not very high quality or is not set up correctly, and I would recommend that you change to a different host.

Hi Nathan, I probably should've worded that a bit differently....it's actually not that it's not possible to get a MySQL database on their windows server, it's just that it would cost too much. Is there somewhere I could perhaps host the blog externally and then publish it to a page within the site? Just had a look at the Blogger site...anyone used that before? Is it any good? I get the impression I could publish it from there to my site...? Thanks |

My wordpress blog was added to an existing static html site - and now drives the site's traffic It's in a directory in the server root, like you want to set up: Currency Trading - my directory is "currency-trading" (best to have a keyword phrase, rather than "blog") I agree with Nathan - move to Linux hosting and take advantage of cpanel 1 click wordpress blog installation - you just enter your prefered directory name and the blog is set up automatically - you just then need to add a navigation link to your blog from your static site's navigation bar - www . mysite . co . uk/blog/ (if you choose "blog" as the directory name) You may also run into problems installing wordpress plugins on a Windows server - and wordpress blogs are pretty useless without plugins
