I'm new at this as well, but I do think MySpace, Twitter and Facebook help attract a decent amount of views. I'm not exactly sure as to the quality of the views though...

But serious, that would work, but that wouldn't be targeted or repeated traffic.

You can bring traffic to your site by building back links into it. You can also blog commenting on sites that are related to yours.

Try joining social networking and advertise your site onto them. You'll soon find out that you have a good traffic into your site. Though this doesn't really happen overnight, so just be patient and you'll soon be rewarded.

We have held contests every so often with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes where most of the time we can get contest sponsors to provide the prizes so all it costs us is our time.

The best performing contest (i.e.the ones bringing in the largest traffic of several thousand participants) was where the 1st place prize was worth at least $200.

And, if you do, simply Google for free contest sites to promote your contest.

Now, we have found that contests traffic is short minded and won't stay unless you continue to offer something of value. Even then, it is hard to get many to stay. However, it will drive traffic to your site, at least temporarily.

Contests are good, but you need to have the money + people will participate only because of the prices and not because his blog was good
