Why People Blog?

What would you say are the top five reasons people blog to begin with? Also, if my goal is to provide useful information with the hopes of increasing traffic on our website and thus sales of our training / consulting services, what sort of blogs would you suggest we post? I would think industry specific but as I research more and more blogs I'm finding that all too often the blogs are not even relative to the bloggers industry. Please forgive the ignorance of my questions but my intent is to get it right and not keep guessing and hoping. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate your time and assistance with my blog.

Socialization - Meet new friends, etc.
Generate Income - They think they are going to get rich fast. In reality it takes time just like a real life investment business
Promote Other Sites - Spam blogs
Creative Outlet - They are creative people who like to write / draw / etc.
Serving Others - Some people really want to help others.

The subject of your blog depends greatly on the subject of your business. One thing about blogs is that they need a personal tone of succeed. In that respect they can be a great way to add personality and personal appeal to a business.

I have to agree with Nathan. That pretty much sums it up.
I know for me it's to express myself, and to make people laugh. If I make money, I make money, but it's not why I do it.

blogs allow anyone to claim their own personal space on the internet. It is also a great hobby and lets you share your knowledge with the world!

People blog for various reasons including hobbies and others. or else for earning money on blog too.

I know some people who blog just because Its in trends right now,and they want to be a part of it.They say "everyone is blogging,celebrities are blogging,why not me ?" but they do not usually come up with anything productive.

"I write as I please" as an old saying. Many people find joys in writing blog I believe and expressing themselves. Earning money is not a must, just a plus

I think the majority of the reason people blog is to share something. That something could be experiences, knowledge etc...

If you're looking to increase sales, increase the visibility of your company etc...

I suggest you write relevant information about your industry. Write stuff that will help people looking for answers, and by helping them you will develop some presence as well as credibility.

Find popular searches related to your industry and tailor bloggeries to answer those questions. Also share some personal stuff that isn't offensive lol as people like to know they are dealing with someone like a personality not just a generic website.

If you become a friendly authority who publishes timely and relevant information it will definitely help your web presence and a host of other things you have no clue about until you start doing it.

If you're an expert and passionate on any given topic, that topic is your best bet imo.
