Seriously this is a great question. How many tags do you think is too many when it comes to blogging. How many tags do you use per article? Do you think you can have to many? Perhaps you think you could have to little? |

We get this question quite regularly. Personally, I assign each post to as many tag categories as possible without getting ridiculous. However, I also avoid tag cloud bloat. I use a limited set of tags like categories. For example I may tag a book review: 5 star book, young adult book, mystery, historical fiction. In this way it can easily be accessed by people who are looking for my top rated book reviews, or historical mystery books for the young adult audience. That is the proper way to use tags: Take the critical properties of your post and the categories that it fits into and use those as tags.

I tend to just sort my posts into labels/categories, so I'm not really "tagging" them like many people do with lots of SEO stuffing attempts. I 'do' think you can have too many and I see people do it all the time. For example, when the tags include almost as many (if not more) words than the post itself done, that's obviously too many, lol.

I stick to 2-3 tags, some categorize the post, others might "describe" the post with keywords. Both work great for my readers to find content, as well as, the search engines to index the same.

In all honesty, I categorize my posts with one simple tag. Therefore, as Jessi said, I suppose I'm not really 'tagging' them. I've contemplated using multiple tags for my posts, but I enjoy the feeling of strict organization down to the last detail, in this sense, tagging.

I go completely overboard - e.g. The Benefits Of Forex Trading Tools it's got 250 visitors from the search engines in the past 24 hours - and it's not even an original article - it's a spun article submitted by someone else |

I usually use half a dozen or so for my more technical articles- including some alternative spellings. I don't like waffling on.

I tend to add 3 - 5 tags to each post. One of the reasons for this is that I dynamically set tags as additional meta keywords, and I've heard that you should only have between 10 - 15 keywords. So I don't tend to go overboard, and like Nathan I use tags like additional categories...

I use to add as many tags as I could think of, but not any more. Now I just try to keep the tags to important targeted keywords, and around 2 - 6 tags per post.
