First piece of spam!

Well, I woke up ... this afternoon, and went to check on my website. Turns out someone has written a comment "Thanks for posting about this, I would like to read more about this topic.". I considered it may have been one of you guys, but then thought that my blog post on "Lord of the rings" has no relation too losing weight. And I know you guys are smart enough to link your blogs on related blogs. So I decided to remove their link (also considering my blog also has the removal of the nofollow tags in comments).

My main point is the question. Would you say that getting your first piece of spam is a "checkpoint" in the progress of your blog?

I would consider first piece of spam as a starting point as you know that people can find your site and you never know who else will be finding you.

Yes, I sure do. Even though it's not a quality comment that you can hang on the wall and be proud of, it's somewhat rewarding to know that your site has been seen and/or that someone has bothered to spam it.

Sadly the spammers tend to find sites before the rest of the universe. At least you know that you are out there and that these first spammers are hopefully a sign of a future wave of traffic.

I just got one a few weeks back saying something similar and the link was to some site selling prescription drugs (illegally of course) from some Some South American country.

Oh, I remember my first piece of spam... At first it feels great to know that somebody, somewhere found you... Then you start getting more. And more. And more. Now I delete ~80 pieces of spam/day from solinkable.com... And it's frustrating.

Just got one today for Russian mail order brides. These things come with the territory.

Well I must be getting around 40 hits per day from search engines and social sites like stumbleupon and reddit (and direct visits). So just need to get that up to my current target of 1000 per day.
