Ive been writing my blog for about... 4 months now and many of my friends enjoy reading it. Lately, I've been trying to get more subcribers, readers and followers. I tried updating people with Facebook so whenever I put up a new blog, I add the link to my status and tell my friends "Hey! New blog! Check it out!" Hoping they'll tell thier friends to look at it also. But what are good ideas to get my words out there to more people? |

Hi Nevar, I'm also fairly new to the blogging world (actually newer than you - by blog is only a few weeks old). I know one of the most important aspects of blogging is finding people to read what you're writing. I've been doing some research on how to drive traffic to your blog and here's what I've found so far: First and foremost make sure you're blogging about a relevant topic that people will be interested in - make sure you have a target audience and a clear direction and purpose of your blog. If you want a consistent readership and subscribers you need to be consistent as well. 1. Post interesting and well written comments on blogs that are one topics that your blog is about (make sure not to spam though and make sure they add to the conversation "Nice post!" is not going to get you any attention) 2. Become part of a blogging community (which you've obviously already done!) 3. Make sure you have a link to your blog in all of your social networking sites, it's also a good idea to have it in your signatures too. 4. Tag your posts so that people have an easier time finding them when searching. 5. One method I've heard of (but must be used sparingly so as not to become an annoying spammer), is to post links to your articles on your twitter account and use a hashtag with a keyword that best describes the topic of the article. (for example, if you write an article about a MacBookPro when you post to twitter make sure you have #macbookpro somewhere in the tweet) this will help people who are searching twitter find your article easier. Note: Make sure if you use this strategy you post tweets covering other topics as well, don't make all of your tweets about yourself. RT some of your fav posts from other websites, add your opinion on whatever is relevant in the topic your blog covers. Don't be a selfish Twitter abuser! ![]() 6. Have patience! It takes time and hard work for a blog to grow and prosper, you've only been in the game for 4 months, sometimes it can take up to or more than a year to create a strong readership. Keep plugging away at it and you'll see results. There are some great resources out there, since I'm such a new member to this forum I can't post links but Google terms like "starting a blog", "promoting a blog" and you'll find lots of stuff. Good Luck!!! |

The two best ways to get traffic to your blog are to work on Search Engine Optimization, so that you show up in search engine results, and to form a web presence by posting on forums and places like this. The more people you know and the more outlets you have the more people you can attract to visit your blog.

Increasing traffic is a constant battle that never goes away. I agree with Nathan that you should try a focus a bit on SEO so that people using the search engines are able to find your blog and become followers.

I use SEO techniques, e.g. using keywords (and associated keywords) that people are likely to search for (using Google's keyword tool). Also use meta tag descriptions that summarize the article/post, which displays on Google's search results. Has attracted visitors...
