Hello All! I'm a newbie to the blogging thing and in order to get started, I signed up with 'blogmas' to get started blogging. It has been very confusing. Is anyone familiar with these people? Should I just have signed on with 'WordPress' instead (it seems to be the parent of it)? Does it really matter who you sign on with to get started?

Content is always first and foremost, so is getting your blog out there - advertising - and no matter what service you use those two fundamentals should always come first. Anything else, just do what feels right, because it is largely irrelevant unless the service is seriously horrible (which blogmas doesn't seem to be) or seriously ripping you off. Though there's more popular blog services, most especially Blogger and Wordpress, I don't think that it really matters what you use merely what you write.

Hadn't heard of blogmas until you posted about it. If they're being difficult I'd just go somewhere else. I do'nt know what their neighbourhood is like, but their latest posts all seem to be about herbs to get you high.

I wouldn't recommend a free hosting service that's just ripping off some other persons program, such as wordpress. It's just stealing their traffic and possible users, which to me, is morally questionable.

Unless they've paid for the use of that platform. That's how wordpress makes its money, in selling rights and support, not by offering a free blog.

I thought of using WordPress in future because it suits my blogging style. But I didnt know it steals your traffic, or users??? I only know hubpages.com will take 50% of your Adsense commission and you lose your right to to your blog writings once you put it on there. Last edited by Ferox; July 16th, 2009 at 07:12 PM. He meant that other sites offering you a wordpress blog, for example, would be taking users that would otherwise go to wordpress, not that the hosts are stealing people from the blog. Wordpress.com will put google ads on your blog (unless you pay a fee). Many free blogs limit how you can make money from them, but I think today.com was the worst. They had some angry bloggers not long ago.
