Did you design your own blog?

I agree... sometimes I wished I just bought a theme instead of designing my own because,I too, become obsessed with it. I end up spending more time on the layout then the actual content.

like many others, i used a wordpress theme which i loaded into blogger, then HEAVILY customized the formatting (colors, banner sizes, etc). It's nice to not have to start entirely from scratch.

I'm seriously obsessed with the look of my blog. It's a heavily hacked premium wordpress theme, virtually unrecognisable from the original.

That doesn't sound like "designing" a blog.

Anybody can set up a new Wordpress blog with a free wordpress theme. The real thing is when you code the theme yourself.

That is what this thread is about.

I started with a cheap premium WordPress theme that I fell in love with and hacked the heck out of it to make it reach my standard of quality. I'm still working on it.

I'm a web designer, though. I personally don't recommend trying to design a theme if you're not a designer/coder, unless you have a whole lot of time on your hands. And a brick wall to bang your head on. Unless you really enjoy it, that is. (Designing, not head banging.)

Many, many years ago I created my first blogs with Blogger, using the Blogger templates. I ended up hacking those, too. But I quickly grew out of Blogger.

I bought a Wordpress theme and then I did some editing. The advantage of buying a premium Wordpress theme is that you don't have to do all the CSS and XHTML/PHP coding yourself. This saves you lots of time.
After purchasing one I just changed the look of the theme to just be different from other blogs which have used the same theme.
