The Purpose of your Blog

I started out wanting just to have a sort of a diary. Then later on, my blog expanded. Then I added one for nontraditional students, and then one for cheap and free stuff in my area.

I think going back to school as an older student was the inspiration for the Nontrad Blog, and the other one (cheap and free stuff) was just an idea I had for something I personally would like to read. The first one is a conglomeration of so many different things.

Now, knowing what I know about making money on the internet, I think I would have made a narrower subject area or niche blog right off, instead of just experimenting. It is work to keep up a blog. Some people begin them and then stop. For me, three is enough for now, but I MIGHT make another one, depending on what I find out about blogs here (i.e. what ones are popular... and how to find a great niche subject.)

My site's side intention is to make money but I enjoy writing and ranting too I also try to make it as interactive as possible.

1. Network with others in my field.
2. Get clients.
3. Make a little bit of money directly, through advertising and offering [affiliate] products
4. Have fun and contribute meaningfully.
5. Improve my writing skills.
6. Get writing gigs that are relevant to what I do.

It started out as a hobby, as a matter of curiousity. I made the odd post about events in my life, books that I read, etc. Didn't think about money at the time.

It was only in the past year that I added a small AdSense ad to the blog. I doubt I will get rich off it, but my interest has grown. So now I am in the process of starting a couple more blogs, specific to particular themes.
