I keep reading that you should send trackbacks to a site relevant to your post, but if you link them they should get one anyway. Some of the sites I read, it seems like they are saying to trackback to the other persons blog, without linking to them? Is that what they are saying? If so, is that really even ethical?
I wouldn't like someone adding a link to their site via a trackback that does not link to me? Or am I thinking wrong? thanks in advance! |

I'm confused! I always thought trackbacks were automatic too (assuming you have it turned on in options)

yeah, thats why I ask, I see it so much in the 'how to blog' sites LOL, but cant really tell what the meaning is behind it

I'm confused at Eve's question too.. But I've learned that trackbacks aren't automatically sent, and I have no idea why. For some sites, my trackbacks don't appear though I have manually typed the trackback URL, but in other cases, I didn't have to type the URL and yet it gets sent..

In wordpress you have to enable them, I also think they dont appear because someone may have removed a bit of code from the comments.php but don't hold me to that!

I get the question. If you link to someone (in wordpress) they get the ping on their site and it appears in the comments, but you can put the url in the trackback field in the post page and theoretically get the pingback. I don't know if this works but I will try soon. It might be alright if it were relevant.
