Default Group Writing Projects - What are your thoughts?

Hi everybody.

I have been writing a few articles and submitted my blog to a couple of group writing projects (there a bit similar to blog carnivals, but on a bigger scale). Has anybody else done so? If so, what has been the response.

I ask this as yesterday I was featured on a Group Writing Project, and I got my higest day traffic ever.

I've never participated in Group Writing Projects but I have a rough idea how it works. I have, however, participated in a couple of Blog Carnivals =)

(1) I find Group Writing Projects/Blog Carnivals very interesting because that's when I get to read what other people write about on a similar topic, and how did other bloggers do it differently. It's a very good learning experience.

(2) What I am not very much concerned about is the traffic that Group Writing Projects/Blog Carnivals bring in. Yes, I admit that such projects do bring in tonnes of traffic and it definitely is a nice feeling knowing that people are READING what I wrote.

But what I am more concerned about when it comes to the sudden increase in traffic is whether I have enough materials on my blog to keep my new visitors for as long as possible. Because if I don't, it would be the first and last time the first-time visitors ever come to my blog!

That's very true. One of my blogging buddies got featured on the front page of Problogger, and - whilst a nice traffic spike - it got little to no response because her top article was weak. Or, as she put it, she was "caught with her pants down"

Personally I've never been involved in a group writing project. However it seems to be a good idea if you had the largest spike in your blogs history. Now maybe work on a few groups that you are interested in if time permits?

I think the idea is solid and you just have to find a group that writes about things you are particularly interested / passionate about. Also have to factor in your available free time.
