Default Is Putting a Banner on my Blog Promoting My New E-Site More Trouble than its Worth.

On the bottom of each of my blog posts, I always list my E-Commerce sites with an interactive link and I assume I've gotten sales as a result. Other than Adsense, I don't have any other ads on my blog. I will be launching a new e-commerce site next week which will be added on each blog to my E-Commerce links at the bottom of the page. My question is would a banner ad on top for my new site be worth putting on my blog or will it in all liklihood simply not make enough money to justify a detraction on the blog and I'm best just promoting it at the bottom of each blog?

Depends on a couple of factors. Is the e-commerce related to the blog? For example, it's an e-commerce store for sporting goods but your blog is about wedding planning (drastic, I know, but you get the idea.)

If it's related, I don't see how it could hurt. We're all so used to banner advertising, I don't think it's bothersome at all as long as it doesn't flash, move or play music.

Good point. I should have mentioned that my blog is a general interest blog. In the case of the e-store banner it sells Home Audio equipment and I'd guess off the top of my head, 5% of my articles are on or related to Home Audio.

Plenty of blogs have banners/affiliate graphics within clear view (within the fold), so should be acceptable. Also place them in your profile for forums, social sites, etc. I made my own graphic and placed them in my profiles for a social forum/blog site and a auction site and it increased visits, more so than the text link I had (I had too many links I think). But the graphic banner easily caused click throughs...

Also I made a word document copy (which have links to my other blogs) of a basic site of mine and linked them - i.e to download the document copy from my site. In Google search results the document is also displayed separately - sometimes before the actual site. So it's another easy way to promote/advertise. Many people use PDF's e-books.

Thanks sounds like a good idea on the forums. Unfortunately, the last 4 forums I joined wouldn't let me put a link of the blog with my name so I said screw them. I'm actually an an experiment going to make a Blog Post about the new e-site as well as a free PR Release and see how that goes. The product is somewhat unique. Once the site is fully up and indexed on Google I'll probably list what it is as I hate sounding cryptic. The beauty of blogs and e-sites is that you can experiment and the most it might cost you is losing $300 and time which is alot better then losing your savings. Of course you probably won't make over a few hundred a month either but its found money.
