Default Can you know if someone references your blog in theirs?

Right now, there's a debate going on on my blog - I wrote a post where I used one lady's post as an example of something I don't like. She then read it, and left me an angry comment, mentioning among other things that she was going to 'go back and update her blog just for me'.

OK, I guess that example was a bit irrelevant, if fun, but if she (or whoever) links to my blog post, is there any way for me to know?

Thanks!

Yep, just enable trackbacks, and her link to your blog post will appear at the bottom of the blog post.

You'll see a section at the bottom of your post that says "Links." It will probably appear there. Or you can just visit her site and watch for her angry response.

It's also a good idea to Google search the name of your blog now and again to see who is talking about you. And if you have access to your stats, you can see referring urls from there also.

This is a bit of a tangent to what you asked, but I would be careful when quoting someone or referring to them in a negative manner on your blog. You could very well find yourself in a court room being sued for libel. It seems ridiculous, but if you search the web for internet libel cases, you will be utterly shocked at some of the lawsuits and court decisions.

That's a good point.

It probably wouldn't stand, but it would be a tremendous waste of time if you ended up being pulled into a court case.

I also set up Google Alerts for both links and key words.....so if anyone links to Quirky Jessi, I get an email saying so, or the same applies if they use the words "quirky jessi," etc.

Good idea to check a blog with Google Alerts, which I will now implement. I think you can view back links for url's/domains with Yahoo's site explorer, which displays all inbound links, as opposed for Google's back links which is a bit choosy in displaying their back links.
