One of my dilemmas on blogging and I don't know if there is a right or wrong answer, are certain subjects distateful/disrespectful and if so should I refrain on blogging on them. Note, I am on adsense and that does influence me to a degree on certain subjects. Here are a couple of examples- if you want to blog on them be my guest- I'll probably write a blog about this dilemma! 1. I'm sure its made the web already but this morning it was relatively new: Someone posted on You Tube a Hilarious video of a movie about Hitler in German with subtitles put in about Hitler being upset that Terrel Owens signed with the Buffalo Bills. While I realized this would have gotten me alot of traffic incorporating the video into a blog post with the subject, I didn't feel comfortable doing this basically because I thought people would get offended with anything dealing with Hitler that people would get a laugh out of and I could see them having cause for being upset, so I didn't do it. Also I don't think people would particularly want to have adsense ads on this. What's your opinion? Again I don't think there is one correct answer. I wasn't comfortable so I didn't do it. I should note that I did a blog about an article I saw in an English newspaper online about Hitler planning to invade a part of England called Blackpool and make it into a Nazi Resort during WW2. As I thought it was interesting from a historical stand point and had nothing to do with promoting Hitler, I blogged about that. Am I a hypocrite or are we talking apples and oranges? 2. I also just blogged about 2 pretty suspected female murderers who were featured separately months apart on 48 Hours Mystery. While I didn't compliment them, I think they're both nuts and said so, I said that they were like something out of the X-Files and I could see a movie made, etc. Was this being disrespectful to the families of the victims as it was not intended that way? Let me know your opinions. My Blog is a general interest website. I didn't put a link to these posts here as I'm not trying to promote them by discussing this. |

Ok, I may get flamed for saying so, but Blog what you want. Especially if it's a general interest website. Think journalistically: if it's offensive it still needs to be reported...and reported items WILL get commentary - good or bad. No one ever got noticed by playing it safe. |

The way I see it is that you are simply sharing what you have learned. It doesn't sound to me like you are or would in any way promote Hitler or his beliefs. As long as you stay clear of taking sides on any touchy subject, I think you will be o.k. I would recommend just providing the story and if others want to debate it, then so be it. |

For the most part, you should blog about what you want to blog about. Plus, it is possible to blog about a distasteful subject in a tasteful way. Just because you blog about Hitler doesn't mean he is your hero.

Listen to your gut. If you feel something may be in poor taste and can't stand behind it, then it's best to not include it. Integrity is worth more than views.

And by views, I mean page views.

I agree with dietdrama. If you can post "jounalistically", meaning, stating the facts and not necessarily taking a stand on either side of a provocative issue, then you'll stand a better chance of not offending anyone. On the other hand, the net is still "free" as it were, so post what you will. People will take offense whether you meant it a certain way or not, so write how it feels best to you. |

Why not post the video and talk about the reservations you had about doing so, giving your reasons - ask people for feedback as you have done here. No one should take offence then. You may get a good blog comment conversation going.

That's a good idea, Sueblimey, thanks. Unfortunately the video is old news now but when something similar comes up in the future, I'll take that approach. Thanks again for the idea, very helpful.

That Hitler video is constantly being redone for different subjects. I personally find it humorous every time. Not because I don't like Jewish people |
