Adding Pictures to my blog- legally

I am wondering if it is legal to use pictures from other internet sites on my blog. Some pictures have in the lower corner a name, I assume of the photographer or company that owns the copyright to the pic. For instance a lot of pics on sports sites say "Getty Images" at the bottom.

But many have nothing like that on them is it alright to use these pics on m own site?

Same question on video clips like from Youtube.

I don't want to do anything illegal.

NO, this is NOT ok.

I take all of my own pictures. And because I take all of my own pictures, I would be very mad if someone "borrows" my hard work for their own profit. If you want pictures, get a camera, and go take them.

Another option is to join a picture forum and request a picture that you want. A lot of photographers take thousands of stock photos. Sometimes all of you have to do is ask.

Another idea is to purchase pictures from sites like iStock for $1.00 a picture

This helps if you don't have time to take the pictures and upload them yourself. It is definitely taboo to take pictures from others blogs and websites.

man, this is tha Interet. YOu wont have any legal problems, if you host the image in another imagehost, like imageshack.com, anyone will know that you "borrow" his image.
At least they can do, is to send you a mail and talk about it, AT LEAST.

But, no legal problems, of course. The law isn't actualized to make laws about internet. There are a few, but dont be afraid,please. Remember, you are in The internet

I use Stock Exchange a lot. That's where I get most of my blog pictures from if I don't take them myself.

I have used stck.xchng a number of times but the other two I have not heard of before I'll check those out.

Also I have been using an app called Zemanta, it automatically crawls what you are writing and suggests different links to use and Tags, and Pics as well but they have various different license agreements to them. Does any one know if all of the pictures it provides are free for use. I don't know what some of the different licenses are or what they mean.

The Zemanta app works great though.

I'm sure if you link to the site it is okay. It's like writing papers, you have to show where the source came from. Link to or post the URL and name of blog from which the source is from
