For those of you using 3 colums, how does your site look on 800X600 display? Some I have noticed dont fit the page anymore but the number of people using that resolution is shrinking all the time.
I guess you have to look at your readership base. Typically the more "tech inclined" an audience the higher the resolution. Especially in webmaster related niches

It goes slightly over but you can still view the posts without horizontal scrolling.

You could keep the width fixed to counter that (Eg. The Photo Crazy Blog - PhotoPumpkin.com) , i usually dont check my design in that resolution..I guess i should start doing that

i always prefer 3 columns! but these days i see people people are more interested in 2 column blogs, where the sidebar is a very broad one, kind of two sidebars in one! john crow can be an example of such a blog!
