Need Help With My Blog.

I started my first blog a few weeks ago. Nicks Guide To The Internet

I want to know what I need to do to increase traffic. I've been to a bunch of sites and they all say different things. I've googled increasing traffic and everyone seems to have there own opinion.

So what are some basic things I need to do for my blog.

I have google analytics so I can see where my traffic comes from.

I read something about pinging blogs. And search engine optimization. But do I need to do that?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Number one you need a new theme. Try to get something that fits your topic. Also you are going to have to build content and let time pass. A lot of new bloggers set up their blogs thinking that they are going to get loads of traffic right away, but it doesn't work that way. You have to let time pass to build up a reputation on Google and get followers.

If you want some short term boosts try Entrecard. The traffic isn't really great quality but at least it is real and you may get a few comments and build some relationships with other bloggers and blogs.

Optimizing your posts for SEO is probably the single best thing you can do to increase traffic. - That and write compelling content. ;-)

you need to find a different topic or title, your post don't match the topics you are talking about. you can stick with your layout, but to get noticed you will need something better (I have the same layout for my blog ) Start commenting on other peoples blog that talk about similar things, some will comment back which makes your blog look popular and more credible.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)is not a one time "adjust a setting and your good" kind of thing. It really is an internet marketing campaign. This was a shock to me but it is a MUST DO if you want decent traffic.

My blog is a month old and I have got a little over 1000 hits and thats it because I didn't Optimize immediately.

Waste no time at this.

Create back links(links that point to your site) on other similar sites. Join a message board forum based on similar content and put your URL in the SIG at the bottom. Link to your blog posts when you post on message boards (be careful not to SPAM).SPAMMING gets you no where its a step backwrds.

THis is a never ending process. I am still learning new ways to do this.
