Despite heavy promotion by my Blog which 350 People read and Press Release Promotion as well as fantastic 1St Place prizes: The winners choice of an Authentic Autographed Promo Photo of Deep Purple guitar legend Richie Blackmore in a custom frame or a used 2.5" Casio Portable LCD TV that will not be usable after the February 17, 2009 Digital Conversion or an autographed, hand drawn sketch of Zippy the Pinhead by creator Bill Griffith, no one entered the Football Rock Music Trivia Contest. If just one person had entered, by answering 1 of the 10 trivia questions correct, they would have won the contest. There's a lesson to be learned here. The answers to the questions such as What former NFL Player's ex-wife dated Elvis Presley before they were married and what 4 College teams were ranked 1-4 in the AP Football Poll when a Beatle stepped on US soil for the first time (a trick question) are on this Blog article I wrote about the Blog Contest which ended last night. After 9 months my Blog is averaging about 900 readers daily and the contest was set up in hopes of getting much more traffic. Interestingly, it looks like from what I can determine, that most of the people who click the adsense ads do so just for reading a particular Blog article they found on Google. IE, the 2000 new Stumbleupon Readers I somehow got last month didn't click many ads from what I can tell. Of course, I also promote my E-Stores in my Blogs and more traffic may bring about more sales to these stores. Blog Promotion No One Entered Our Blog Contest No Prizes Won! | Gifts and Free Advice |

It's odd that you had 350 views and no one entered. Have you analyzed why no one participated in the contest? It might be an opportunity to learn and apply to future contests.

Honestly I find it kind of funny in that if just 1 person had entered and got 1 question right they could have won by default and the questions were interesting trivia. I actually think I did get some new traffic via the press releases from places like Stumbleupon but I basically discovered that my main traffic that actually makes me money comes via Google oneoffs as my blog is diverse instead of being niche related. I figure the Unsuccessful Contest will get me more publicity, haha. I'm not going to do another. At least I got to keep my Ritchie Black autograph and Zippy Autographed sketch. As for the 2.5" LCD Casio TV, its a nice paperweight come February 17.

I think that's where you went completely wrong... well, a couple of things, I think. First, you made the contest harder than what most people want to do. Remember most people are lazy and no one wants to try to answer trivia questions if they don't want to... Also, social sites such as SU, Digg, etc NEVER help you with clicking on ads, they are just temporary traffic which may look good for your stats but overall, it won't help you make money. You need to focus on SEO and organic traffic if you're planning on doing that part. Plus, I'm going to assume you get 900 visitors daily that are mainly from referring sites and social sites, huh? Lastly, for these types of contests, you want to focus your promotion with other bloggers... I would hit up various contest blogs to get it listed, get other bloggers to your site through forums, commenting, etc. Anyways, hope that helped! |

No most of my traffic & clicks comes from Google not the Social Network sites. You may be right about trivia being hard but I thought that would offer people who would be into my blog a challenge.

If you think about it, almost no one from search engines will enter contests... you have to focus more on bloggers to do so like that.

About the social bookmarking traffic not clicking ads, I read somewhere that many users of Digg, Stumbleupon, etc, are, by and large, more tech savvy and thus more likely to have an adblocker. Perhaps they never saw them.

I wonder if those adblockers work for Google Ads? One thing I am convinced at is for my General Interest Blog where I post on any subject, I'm not going to be concentrating on getting additional traffic from Social Networks in the future as it seems like I said most of the people who click adsense at least are one offs from Google. I can't tell though about sales that resulted from my e-commerce sites as a result.
