I've taken the first tentative steps to move away from blogger and have made enquiries about having a custom template designed. I'm slightly concerned about what will happen to the custom domain that I bought through google. It was bought through blogger but I'd like to take it with me (obviously). Anyone know how I'd go about pointing bloggers' custom domain to a completely new site? Or even taking the domain elsewhere completely? Cheers

I would assume that you can take the domain with you anywhere. How do you access the ftp?

ftwho? It's all done on blogger and their hosting etc (currently) (I do other sites on ftp, but google seem to have buried the whereabouts of the domain)

Hmm - that might be tricky, then. I just tried to do the normal ftp://yourwebsitename.com way to get in, and it timed out on me three times in a row, which leads me to believe that's not the way to do it... ![]() Is there any way to contact them?

There's plenty of ways to contact google. just as long as all of them are by email and you don't mind an automated response

Well, that's no fun... ![]() Have you tried the Blogger Help Forums? Sometimes it takes a while to get a response, but you could ask there. Or, read this article Rob posted earlier. It's about a new service Google has. Maybe it can help? http://www.bloggeries.com/forum/news...html#post54419

Just a quick heads up. DON'T register a custom domain through blogger directly. It's a pain to move it away - especially (if like me) you lost your email from them with your login details to access the domain control panel! I finally got it (thanks to helpful guys at godaddy) but was a pain trying to track it down and prove I was who I said I was!

Service provided for own domain names in blogger, and wordpress will not have ftp access configured. FTP comes with normal hosting service. Your registered domain name can be transfered, once you finalise your hosting provider, you can either request for transfer or change your DNS setting. A detailed email to google should do. these are all the problems user will face with google kind of domain redirector than hosting |

Your post can be taken as a backup with export option with blogger. Now Blog converter tool is available to convert your post for other web blog platform. So if your correct the DNS and decide your hosting things will be fine. I found a good article in hexahost blogs related to this |
