Goes to show like anything if you want to last the test of time the activity has to be autotelic. Most great blogs that have been around for a long time are done because the author loves doing it just for the sake of doing it. Glad to hear blogging is an autotelic activity for many of us here.

I gave up my first blog, which is a poetry blog. My first attempt of blogging was not successful but it is a good thing that my celebrity blog is fine. I started blogging last February, so far, the site had good hits.

I used to have a meta-blog which I gave up after a few hundred posts. My current blog is 4 months and 7 days old, and it's still going strong.
I also have a lot more success with this new blog than the old one -- i.e., # of readers, # of comments, # of subscribers, # of links coming in, ad revenue, etc.

In the beginning, I discovered blogging.
I became addicted and bit off more than I could chew. Now, I am integrating two of them into one - I am passionate about my jewelry, so I won't abandon them. And I am having to rethink my focus on some others...I may have to give up on one, but it led me to a better idea, so all is not lost - my cooking blog. My excuse is that it was all new and I was learning about what is possible. Yep, that's my story.

Indeed it is not that easy to have two blogs at a time. It is better to maintain the one or the niche that is much closer to your heart. Focus, nurture and enrich it with content, for all you know it is one way to make it big on the net.

I don't ever recommend giving up on a blog.
But compared with static sites, with the use of social networking and the power of really simple syndication bringing a blog back to life is much easier. |

Recently, I was away from my blog for 2 months, which was unavoidable (no I wasn't in jail), and it pained me everyday just thinking of not moderating any comments and communicating with my contacts that had been so helpful with keeping me informed of their projects.
To my surprise, when I finally had time to sit down and see how bad it had gotten, not only was my traffic actually a little better, (I was posting everyday for 5 months), but it went from a PR 0 to a PR 4 . That lit a fire under me. I was sure I had ruined it and lost any readers that I had. I'm back on it now, and will now probably open up my dusty wallet to invest a little money in it. I think I may have lost my drive if I had lost as much ground as I though I had. |

Hell yeah, and I must be due to give up on the current one soon as I'm really bored with it. Over the last three years I have bought around 150 domains for various ideas that I've had (a lot of them have been blogs or blog related) and most of them only lasted a few days or a week or so, if they even got started. I love setting up sites, but just can't be bothered actually running them
