I've been struggling with my relatively new consumer blog (TinkerBot) and am now considering doing away with my friends-only livejournal to create a public blog about my personal life. I'm wondering if it's such a good idea to start a new blog when I'm still struggling with TinkerBot.
The main reason why I blog is because I feel my everyday ramblings would be of some value to some people. TinkerBot is geared towards consumers and is chock-full of advice on solving everyday problems. It also includes product reviews, store reviews, and neat little experiments I've done at home to try and answer some questions a lot of people may have. The problem I find myself having with TinkerBot is that I will run out of topics sooner or later. I know that it sounds ridiculous with the limitless number of products out there in the world, but I only review products and stores that I have either had personal experience with or find to be exceptional. To say in the least, I'm pretty picky and I won't write about something I'm not enthusiastic about. Another problem is not being able to keep up with the blog. I find in order to post at least every other day requires quite a bit of research. The personal blog I'd like to create will be about my life and general advice I have for others. Having just recovered from a year of being sick & stuck in bed, I find myself thrust back into life and back to dealing with a lot of issues I know a lot of people have but fail to realize they aren't alone. Being a female in a predominately male field, having dealt with abuse & mental illness, dealing with my sexuality, having a significant other who is struggling with his gender identity, and still managing to be one of the happiest people my friends have met, I know I have a lot of invaluable advice to offer. I feel that combining the two blogs would not only undermine the content of TinkerBot, but that the controversial nature of my personal blog would drive away a lot of people seeking consumer advice. The question remains: is it a good idea to start this new blog? I can't help but feel anxious to start writing. Should I just stop being so impatient? Should I abandon my consumer advice blog and concentrate my efforts on my personal blog? Will starting this new blog get the creative juices flowing and help me through my struggles with TinkerBot? Thoughts, anyone? |

If you are struggling with a blog it is a sign that your heart really isn't totally in it so its not going to get any easier.
If you are passionate about something else write about it. In blogging like in life we seldom pick the best choice first so it's all just a learning process towards finding what you're meant to do. If you want to make a personal blog then DO IT! Your consumer blog will still be there when you're done right? It's not like it's some huge going business that takes all your time so just put it on the back burner; come back to it if you want but in the meantime start blogging about something that you love. You only have one life so go for it and let us know all about it ![]()

But thanks, you're right. TinkerBot will be there regardless of what I decide to do. I tend to impose unnecessary deadlines and rules upon myself, and I can see now I'm doing that with TinkerBot. That isn't what blogging is all about (at least in my mind). |

It's not a job it's a hobby so do what you think is fun. If you were being paid maybe different story but even then. Just go with the flow.. ya know

Keep it a hobby. Forever. Jobs get old and people start to "hate" them, so if you're blogging feels like a job, why wouldn't it get old to you?
Many people have 2-3-4 blogs because they are niche blogs and each different thought in their head goes on a different blog. It shouldn't be too bad for you, just don't forget about your blogs no matter how many you have. |

I'm with Auction Man. I have a bunch of blogs, and I post where the mood strikes me. I know better than to think I can make a living at it, so I am just having fun! Have as many blogs as you like, make them fun for you and don't worry about the rest.
