I started blogging in 2003. I had a home based business for over ten years off line. My mindset leans to business naturally so it isn't an appalling thought to make money from my blog. I remember when only Google was making money from blogs while posting ads over your header and bloggers did the work.
I didn't carry advertising for the first six months. But I always planned to and regret not having done it earlier. From a bottom line point of view my electric bill doubled when I came online again over a year ago now. Then there was of course the Internet Provider. Soon a new computer and the need at some point to pay out for virus protection. The list goes on.
I enjoy blogging and have done it without ads. I still have one blog that carried no advertising. But It will at some point.
Blogging can be seen as a hobby, as work or both. I never had a desire to share my personal thoughts, My goal is to write for a living.
It is nice when you have another income you can depend on so as to be able to blog for free. Many people do not have that luxury. If I didn't blog I wouldn't starve. But I have a business mindset and came to the reality one day there is nothing about it to be ashamed of.
No one would stay on a job if their boss walked in one day and said we need you to work without pay for a year. I'd pull the resume out. I've gotten kind of use to eating and having a roof over my head. Plus--I absolutely enjoy writing and blogs. It doesn't get any better.
I'm older and wiser. I have learned that if income goes out of my house there has to be income to replace it or I go broke.
I respect the blogs that show you can make money on line. There are many people out there now earning a living who were once stressed over how to make ends meet like single moms and even homeless people.
There are bad lots in every warehouse. I've learned a lot over the past year on purpose to make money online. I've learned how and it is very nice.
