Lightbulb What's In A Name?

Names. Everybody has one, most people have a vague idea what their own means, but few give them much more thought.
So, what's the Big DEAL? Why is everyone so up in arms about the press ( ) and others calling Obama by his full name?
If someone thinks its inciting fear to mention someone's full name, perhaps they are having flashbacks to their own childhood. Remember Mamma calling you by your full name? You knew you were in trouble.
I wrote a post today, and I still just wonder. Why is it a big deal when we refer to him by his full name? It is afterall his name. Is it shameful? Is it embarassing? Maybe someone else can enlighten me.

The name itself is not problematic; however, referring to him by his first and middle name is generally meant to propagate the false notion that he is a Muslim. It is not simply an idle practice; I've rarely heard, for instance, anybody refer to Senator McCain as John Sidney McCain.

Innocent,

I don't think that its to bring up the fact that he's muslim. As we all know, he isn't. If you read my blog post "what's in a name" then I think you can see what I'm talking about.

Hillary is often referred to as Hillary Rhodam Clinton, George Bush is often referred to as George W Bush. Lets get past racial sensitivity here. The Man's name is Barack Hussein Obama, if its a problem for him to be called by his name....then there's an issue, somewhere. He should be proud of his name. If he's not....there's a problem. He should also be proud to wear a flag pin (which he will not), put his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem, technically should at least make an attempt to join the crowd singing, and be PROUD of his country. Instead he refuses all of these. I'm worried about a man running for president who's not PROUD to be AMERICAN. Maybe you think differently. But our national pride should be foremost.

This isn't right. I supported Romney and his real name was never used by the press. We can't really control what we are named.

What's not right? No we can't control what we are named. But we should be proud of it what ever our name is. Unless of course you're a boy named Sue and maybe that wouldn't be bad either

It's not what he chooses to be called, the press and the pundits bring it up to play on peoples fears.

He does not choose to be called by his full name. The only reason to refer to him as such is to imply supposedly undesirable things.

They both choose to be. He does not.

I do not go by my middle name, and I suspect that you do not, either. It's simply a matter of preference, and is not indicative of any kind of problem.

1) How is this relevant to the discussion at hand?

2) Not wearing a pin does not mean he is not proud to be American. I wear no pin; most do not.

3) One picture of the Senator with his hands at his sides during the National Anthem also says nothing about national pride.

If this is the sort of specious reasoning readers should expect from your blog, you have work to do.

I think names give a subconscious picture of a person to some extent. Just like if you're clean cut and show up to a meeting people already assume you're a diligent worker.

I try and ignore names and relate to people but some names are better then others I believe.

I read a conspiracy therory book way back when..they brought up an interesting point when media refers to Assassins, that they are usually referred to by their full name.

John Wilkes Booth
Mark David Chapman
Robert John Bardo
Lee Harvey Oswald
