I don't generally say anything too negative because it's not worth my time but I find that incredibly rude of you. This wasn't something put up "for discussion" nor was it something where a "devil's advocate" was appropriate because no one was debating. As you said, you don't know him nor do you know his situation, so while marriage may not be something for you, it obviously is for him, and to my knowledge, he didn't ask for your opinion. From where I sit, he was sharing an announcement...a change in his life....and he shouldn't be subjected to having to defend his joyous occasion to some random dude on the net that wanted to be a party pooper and rile things up to get the attention on himself instead of the original poster where it should be.

There's my feeding of the trolls for the year.....after all, negativity gets you what you want anyway, so I hope you enjoy.

Oh, and welcome to Bloggeries, Poster. Lovely entrance you've made there.

I don't know you -- and I'm sure this is a happy occasion for you. But marriage, to me, seems rather archaic and even worse -- it's the illegal binding of two people. Why is that OK?

For the sake of discussion -- and for the sake of acting as devil's advocate (an advocacy I can really get behind) -- why do you need a piece of paper to give credibility to your relationship?

Shouldn't we want to be in a relationship with someone because we want to be -- not because we "legally" have to be?

It all seems absurd and honestly, the drop out rate doesn't surprise me one bit.

Good Luck?
Congratulations?
I wish I could say I'm happy for you.

I don't know you -- and I'm sure the opportunity to impinge upon the celebration of someone you don't know is a happy occasion for you. But opinionated self-righteousness, to me, seems rather archaic and even worse -- it's the rude interjection of an opinion where none is warranted. Why is that OK?

For the sake of discussion -- and for the sake of acting as devil's advocate (an advocacy I can really get behind) -- why do you need to attempt to intrude upon someone's happy moment to give credibility to your opinion?

Shouldn't we want others to be happy with their decisions because it's their choice about their life -- and not detract from that just because we think they're "wrong"?

It all seems absurd and honestly, the drop out rate of acquaintances with jerks doesn't surprise me one bit.

Good Luck?
Congratulations?

Im with Quirky and Inhibitor - and could not say it better. It was not a discussion it was a celebration for the happiness of a friend to some, an aquaintance to others, and just some good news!

Why such a negative spin would be needed is beyond me, this is what fuels such animosity among humans. Was it completely necessary to even say anything about something that was not be asked for opinions, instead it was sharing ones happiness and wellness! I have been married for 20 years, and that is something to celebrate!

It's love I guess... She's the best thing that ever happened to me and maybe someday when you meet the woman that makes your heart beat fast you'll come back to bloggeries and say differentally. It's quite ironic how you mention your opinions because I once, (believe it or not) felt the exact same way!

No word a lie!

Love will find you and when it does! LOOK OUT

Personally, I met my best friend, and we married for the tax advantages.

I'm gay.
But thanks for that hope.

I understand the romanticism of it, I suppose.

Just make sure you do it right and not wrong.

Congratulations!

Love your blog, it is one of my favourites.

Not the internet's version of the word, where everybody and their mother is my "favourite" so that I might be "favourited" back.
No, I mean the dictionary definition of the word favourite, ie, one that I like best.

Good luck with this exciting new chapter in your life. I wish you both health and happiness.
