Hey, I'm just curious how people react when you get negative responses as comments on your posts. Like people telling you that the post was awful or pointless? Do you do anything about it? Does it piss you off?

I tend to take things with a grain of salt and don't let things get to me. It's just an opinion and that person might not even be an expert. I try to look at big picture and learn from what others say. It only makes me a better person. If I have something negative to say to others on here or in life I focus on the positive first. Then explain what I might do different or make suggestions. There's no point in criticizing someone if you can't offer advice.
Traffic pisses me off though! lol |

You can change your settings, to where you have to approve comments before they are posted.
If you aren't planning on doing that you can follow up the negative comment by saying something positive. Sometimes, negative comments are good and will cause your readers to post more comments.

If it's not a SPAM I'm keeping those. More interesting for my readers.

As long as the language is not abusive, i keep it and also remember to leave a response for them
If its constructive criticism and makes sense, then I try to improve |

Yeah, I look at all the negative comments (even if it's NOT constructive critism) as a sense of accomplishment. The bigger you get, the more haters you're going to have.
I'm actually going to be writing a post on it. And I agree, if it's not spam, I'm going publish it! |

I agree with MarketLeverage as well, spin it to something positive and answer back with your reasons, unless its truly hateful and blatant, it's not worth getting into the verbal sparring

Well then I suppose I'm completely unaccomplished, lol. Really, the only negative comment I can say I've gotten was back when I did a story about car seat testing and failures on many different brands (I think that was the one anyway). I got a several paragraphs worth of info from a lady jumping down my throat about how the information wasn't correct and that testing standards were inconsistent. I replied back and we chit chatted in my comments for a few days about different tests/studies (she'd calmed down at that point), and I wrote a follow-up post about some of the other studies. I didn't view it as bad at all (minus how slightly rude she was to begin with), and because it was for a great cause anyway, then having more information is never a bad thing.
That being said, because of the nature of my blog, no one is ever going to say that "my post was pointless"....they're always pointless, lol. That's the point! I do blog about serious things from time to time and I miss having my blog focus on various issues like it used to, but only a drive-by commenter is going to even say something like that, and 'that' would be an accomplishment on my end. *Shrugs* I just don't blog about controversial enough stuff for lots of negativity. That's the opposite of my blog's purpose. |
