Question Generate More Comments via Plugins??

Comments are important to any blog and ways to generate and increase the volume and quality of comments are always of interest.

I've seen the "Top Commentators" Plugin and I must say I like it. I have noticed that everyone who has it gets a good number of comments with most hoping that they will get in the top 5 or 10 and get a sitewide link. I've noticed everyone who has it has to delete alot of messages however.

I'm curious if anyone knows any similar plugins to use on your blog to help generate the quality and quantity of comments.

Thanks,
Rob

I've been using the top commentators plugin for a while now, and didn't really see a huge increase in comments.

I recently ran a contest where the winner was the top commentator at the end of the month, though, and the combination of the contest and the visual indicator of progress with the top commentator list worked very well.

I also use DoFollow, but can't say that the number of comments really increased because of it. It also reduces the value of the top commentators plugin, since all the links are follow links.

I can't get the Top Commentator plugin to work after I upgraded to WordPress 2.2 earlier (I'm now running on WordPress 2.2.2). So I have kinda given up on that. But I have "Recent Comments" on my sidebar, does it work like the Top Commentators plugin too?

I like to make the comments page really simple and the comments easy to read for visitors. Theres the comment plugger plugin which puts a list of your commentors at the bottom of the post on the main page with links to their sites.

I use Top Commentators on Wordpress 2.2, though, so maybe there's an issue with your theme? I didn't need to do anything to get it working, as far as I remember.

When in installed it I had to be creative! I edited the variables in the plugin file not in the function
