I made my blog DoFollow for a while but it didn't seem to have much effect. I think when I changed themes I lost the DoFollow and I haven't gotten around to reimplementing it. How do you attract visitors who would want to comment on a DoFollow blog? And how do you let them know that your blog is DoFollow?

Thing is if it's a really popular post it will probably have dozens or hundreds of outbound links in the form of comments anyways.

Also regarding the whole promoting dofollow... I think that's just a bad call because it makes you look like you're down with gaming things whether you are or not. It also attracts really insincere comments from people looking to ... I think an actual exchange with bloggers is a better way. Many people do that for all sorts of things to generate a little buzz. Often a comment or two will make the next reader more inclined to leave one or even reply to a comment of another. Just my $0.02.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds interesting; may I ask why you require a login to see any threads?
That was already covered in the post...

NOTE: Registration is required to even view the forum's, this is because we take the protection of our members serious and we have had problems in the past and it has made this step necessary for us.

I don't really want to get into any more details than that.

DoFollow allows search engines to follow your commenters' blog or site links. It benefits your commenters, and so the Dofollow tag is an incentive for people to leave comments in your blog.

I've always had a dofollow blog but the one blog entry in mine that is the "most commented" was because it was a "critic" of the Links Exchange "forum" in question. How ironic! haha

When I have an auto-comment or spam-comment, I just delete them. No problem! Akismet doesn't work on my blog somehow so I am going for something better after I've done my research and "tests".

It makes sense if the search engines assume that comments are to increase PageRank...which is one of several reasons a blogger might want to exchange comments.

However, IMHO it is not the main reason, and certainly not a reason why a blogger would want to receive comments.

Sure thing; I just think it seriously limits growth and exposure of members. I guess we stand on polar sides of the thought spectrum regarding this matter.

Best of luck,

I'm not saying having dofollow is bad. I'm just saying promoting yourself as dofollow isn't necessary recommended. Personally I don't even check as I do commenting for traffic and exposure.

I think I understand. Promoting DoFollow is probably more likely to attract spammy commenters, but making your blog DoFollow could still serve as a pleasant surprise to commenters who are legitimate.

That's the jist of it and it also places your blog along side many blogs that have little going but the dofollow. Don't want to appear as one of those.

I find that "comments" aren't a major part of SEO but comments are always nice. At least it shows search engines can find you or your blog title is interesting enough for a click or read.

I was trying to figure out how to create blog titles without those "non-seo" words like "and, are, is, where, what, to, were, if, like". I figured URLs can do without those words. And I will just leave my title 'as is' or else "Blogs I like" will simply become "Blogs", and I don't want that.
