I've heard if your blog is doing quite well, you can actually contact marketers of products pertaining to your blog and see if they would be interested in advertising on your blog for a certain fee? Is this true? How do you go about contacting these people? |

Sure, just find the appropriate contact person and shoot them an email. I do it for books and videos - now they just send them to me automatically.

How should I measure how much I want to charge them?

| You should measure it based upon your daily traffic, RSS readers, age of the blog, and pagerank. Goodluck!

Come up with a price you think is fair. Ask yourself "would I pay for advertising on this site? If so, how much?". This is a really tricky arena, because if you charge someone 300 bucks a month and send them 10 clicks, they tend to get pretty upset. And most average bloggers don't have a pay per click system set up, so you have to be careful not to charge too much and upset people, yet also don't undercharge either. Another thing to think about is the authority of your blog. I have a client who charges 3000-5000 per month for advertising, and only sends a few hundred hits. Why do people pay this much? Because they are an established authority in the industry, and it looks very good for these companies that this particular website would host their ads (they are super picky about their advertisers) That's what you should shoot for, if you can. It takes a long time, but if you become enough of an authority, people will be banging down your door for ads.

Another thing you can do is ask them for related products to your niche and say how would you like some free advertising in the form of an objective project review?

You can also visit blogs similar to yours and see who is advertising there. Then contact them and let them know what you can offer them. If they are advertising on other blogs in your niche, there's a good chance they will show some interest.

You can also join an affiliate management program like Commission Junction, Link Share, Link Connector, Avantlink, Share A Sale etc. I'm a publisher in all of those programs and more and get a check every month. Not like I'm quitting my day job yet though. I think the tighter the niche and the more related the product to your niche the better you can do. Feel free to contact me directly for more pointers. |

You could also look at using a brokerage service. It save you the hassle but you only get a cut of the cash.
