I assume that you mean outsourcing the writing. To me, a blog created that way isn't a blog at all; it's a waste of space.

I write my blogs myself however I also work as a blog and website writer. I have a number of customers who pay me to write their blog posts and it tends to be people who have factual rather than personal blogs. Some people ask me to write a weeks worth of posts now and again while others ask me to write and update their blogs daily. In my opinion we are both happy - I am paid for my writing whilst my customers must also clearly be making money through advertising and what not. I think outsourcing is sometimes a good idea. This is especially the case if you have a factual blog and need a week off work for a vacation or if you have writers block. Sometimes a week off can bring some inspiration and motivation back into your life... and lets not forget if you want a successful blog it needs to be updated daily. Search engines need new content and if you don't want to write it, it may be cost effective in the long run to outsource it to someone else |

If you are outsourcing your blogging, you are not really blogging anymore. You have become some sort of online middleman. The great thing about the internet is that it disintermediates. Which is why most middlemen (newspaper - middlemen between journalist and readers, publishing firms - middlemen between authors and readers and record labels - middlemen between artists and listeners) are having a hard time in the new digital world of the internet. The entry price for blogging is extremely low, practically zero, which makes it very easy to sidestep potential middlemen. I am therefore having a very hard time imagining how one would successfully outsource blogging. If someone is good at blogging, they will start a blog (and not accept you as a middleman), if they are not good at blogging, you probably don't stand to profit from outsourcing your blogging to them. The only way to successfully outsource blogging would be to find great authors not connected to the internet and act as an intermediate (middleman) between them and the global audience on the internet. (I wish you good luck with that search) |

I can think of 2 ways to outsource: Get people to write on your blog, in exchange for a link to their blog. Hire someone (from India/China?) The first way is great, I am now beginning to use article exchanges, and as long as you choose good writers, you can get good content for free. The second one is not so good. Most of those "hired writers" use very low language, have spelling mistakes, use weird vacabulary. And they don't really care about your readers. |

| But by the time you've finished discussing and negotiating that, wouldn't it have been easier to just write a blog post? Allowing guest posts in order to build relationships and have an occasional fresh voice on your blog is one thing, but I don't see how it saves any effort.

| Outsourcing - to unknown people (which is what I take this post to be about) is bad. They're writing who knows what kind of quality content and who knows how many other sites are getting the same or similar content from them. Going out to hire/find alternative writers is good. I greatly disagree with you ChickenFreak. It's definitely not a waste of time to find a person to write for your blog. Writing one post does not equal the potential dozens of posts your new writer could offer. There's also the fact that an alternative writer brings new perspectives, views, thoughts, ideas, concepts, voicing, and the list goes on to your blog. It is never a bad thing to have alternate writers on your blog as long as they meet a few criteria. For me that criteria is something like: 1.) They have to be up to the quality you want to maintain on your blog 2.) They have to be honest and willing to only write that content for your site 3.) They have to write content that relates to your topics. 4.) They'd let you maintain total editorial control. Hope this helps
