One of the things that I'm surprised not many people are doing is forum marketing. There are so many threads related to common SEO/MMO/blogging questions on forums like Bloggeries and Digitalpoint that some of you are bound to have posts about them. Link to them if they're relevant! As long as you don't go about spamming your link without any background info on where it leads, users will generally just thank you for it. Digitalpoint happens to be one of my biggest referrers - it drives almost as much traffic as Google - and this all happens passively while I post there.

I guess what you said is something to ponder on.. we actually do get some traffic from the forums, and i have also noticed that.. but more than traffic i think the forums are very useful for plenty of advice and information, which we need in order to improve our blogging.. and i really appreciate that |

There are many many benefits to forum posting. I do that on digital point. Another thing people often overlook is the thread itself. A thread about blogging and how to do something on a large forum is a great link to have to your blog; it's from a strong site in the niche on a page totally related to your blog. Also every post is also a chance at traffic. I still get traffic from digitalpoint even though I rarely if ever post anymore. I'm at 1800 posts. To get the most you always want to reply advanced and put an appropriate topic to each post within a thread; like this one. Also let's not forget the largest reason why everyone should be involved in forums; tap into a collective knowledge base and networking with like minded individuals. Priceless!

I agree, but only when it is very relevant. It is easy to be seen as spamming if every link you put in a forum thread is to your site. But if you have some unique content that ads to the discussion, then it is a great way to build traffic.

| People who spam get their accounts banned and signature links removed and usually don't get much traffic while they do it as people recognize spam and recognize when responses aren't genuine. Ultimately they just waste their time and their credibility gets shot. Being known as a post padder / spammer isn't best rep to get or easiest to loose!

Even without linking, it's a great way to build traffic and make connections with people. Just be careful not to overdo it and it's a wonderful marketing tool.

| It's easy to do but the problem is once you cross the line doesn't matter your titles anymore people just don't open your threads.

That doesn't surprise me any Brian. You were on the verge of being blocked from my email address and unsubscribing from your site because of your borderline spam. |
