Classified Ads to Promote Blog/Website?

I am looking for others that might have used classified ads to promote your blog/website or even an affiliate offer.

My plan was to use classified ads to promote Free community dating online service with local photo personals website and when I was able to publish few ads to Gumtree for few days, it went well. However, they removed my ads and was unable to post there anymore so have used craiglist and London, England - Free UK Classifieds afterwards with less success. Only few visitors per month from those sites.
You can't publish any affiliate links to those I assume?

Hmmm..I have had ads removed from Craigslist as well, so that's a no-no, but I am still wanting to try classified sites.

Anyone know of a site or two that this might be allowable on?

I havent, but have you tried Kijiji USA Free Classifieds - Post & Search Free Classified Ads.

I tried using classified ads at the beginning for building backlinks, but it just seemed too time consuming - plus most of the sites will ban you pretty quick. I think the other methods are much more effective for building links.

Craigslist works a little as long as you have a regional type of product or service to offer. Most others are seen as spam. Also Craigslist uses nofollow tags so it is no good for getting backlinks for the search engines.
