What is the best technique for indexing a new site in google?

I have been using social bookmarking with good success, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing.

Social bookmarking is more powerful than I had ever thought. Which networks are you using?

Another great way is to build a decent blog and blog for a few days than start getting links from other related blogs or in forums etc. The Engines will find you. Just want to make sure the first time they visit it's a nice one.

Add your site to Google Webmaster tools. If you are impatient, create a digg profile with a link to your blog in the profile, and digg some upcoming popular stories. Your blog will get indexed within 48 hours.

Get featured on a popular blog (I got linked from John Chow for Shagablogger.com), but strangely the best way outside of that is to have a blog on google blogspot, and just write a post. I seem to get it then within 24-48 hours.

Sitemaps are great to get you indexed by google ---

I use a free service from AutoMapIt

AutoMapIt.com

They will spider and create 6 different sitmaps for you ---

* Google Sitemap
* Yahoo Sitemap
* HTML Sitemap
* OPML 'Feed' Sitemap
* RSS Sitemap - RSS v2.0
* ROR Sitemap


They have both a free service(with link back) and then a paid service - The free service is great for any new blog / website. The paid service is best ---

You can set up and have the sitemaps automatically uploaded to your site via ftp---

You will still need to go to Google Webmaster Tools get an account and verify your website / blog ---

Get yourself some good quality backlinks as well - while your waiting for the site to be spidered

The Digg thing works well as mintblogger suggested

I have a sitemap, submited my link to google and just post regularly. I think my nre posts get indexed within 24 hours, and I don't exploit the social networks.
