Has anyone seen substantial traffic from blog directories? Approx numbers will be useful. A listing of top ten directories will be useful. Cheers,

If you're a one-of-a-kind blog, with nothing else like it around, then you can get a trickle of traffic. I get about 5 or so visitors monthy from some of the higher-ranking directories. They are more for buildingl inks to assert your authority in google search results (which is good traffic) and pagerank. And now that I've mentioned pagerank, about three people are going to tell you pagerank doesn't matter. That's personal oppinion.

I've actually been trying to find other good blog directories, so if anyone else can name some good ones, it would be great! |

On my veterinary blog I have links to many free or reciprical directories in my sidebar. I found the two that actually rank blogs against each other to be quite good, but forgot what they're called.

I have the same question. I'm new to blogging and have recently submitted my blog to a lot of directories, but I'm still not seeing much traffic. What else can I do to get my name "out there," so to speak? Thanks! |

Blog directories are part of the puzzle to get ranking. If you submit to directories that accept ANYONE ANYTIME it means nothing. If you get accepted into a directory well ranked from search engines it's seen as a sign that your site isn't spammy. That is why from the directory owners point of view you must exercise strict editorial integrity or your site will become a useless list of links. All directories are not created equal; submit yourself to some good ones and it will help with the strength of your blog. Also get active in social media, comments, etc etc etc... It's not the end all be all but it's part of the equation for sure.

Personally I not a great fan of the directories par see, the established and credible ones (as mentioned above) are sometimes worth it but the social networks are the place to be at the moment..

| Indeed I'm finding Yahoo & MSN are crawling this place infinitely more after becoming "active" on twitter.

Yeah, I do agree. Directories DO help you get ranked, but they can also help you get deranked. One e-commerce site through work after pushing the links on directories managed to increase from 1 sale a month to 1 sale a day. It's google ranking has increased incredibly. It does take time, but directories are useful. But you need to look out for the right ones |
