Default "Excuse me...<Ahem> Can you add me to your blogroll?"

So I've been scoping out a few blogs in my niche, trying to add thoughtful comments here and there. I've added them to my blogroll, and some have responded in kind.

But a few haven't responded. What's the best way to nudge them - is it considered spammy to flat-out ask them for an add, or do I continue with my comments and impress them so much they'll want to add me?

Thanks,
peege

Hi Peege,

I suggest adding a signature link to your blog here so we can take a look and see if it is in one of our niches.

Most people prefer to pick who to put on their blogroll and not have it offered in a trade. The title should be earned not bargained for. Good posts of yours will draw them all by themselves.

That being said here is how I would approach it.

It is always better if you add their link to your blog first and then drop them a line letting them know that you thought their blog was cool enough to add to yours. Perhaps give them a few days to respond on their own and then drop them a comment saying something about mutually beneficial bla bla bla and you added yours already etc.

Like life blogging is no different. YOu have to give to get. Why would anyone give you a blogroll link for no reason?

Make a great blog / resource that people would want to link to. Add some for free and let them know. They might add you maybe not. Others will add you as time goes on.

Also I'd recommend you make the 8 more posts like everyone else then post this in the appropriate section

Great sound advice, I think you get anxious when starting out and just want things to happen instantly - and it doesnt work that way. Both Rob & Bruce said it quite well, continue to read and post comments, finding that mutual niche, or cross over niche, it just takes some time.

As a veteran blogger, I find it very annoying when I get blogroll requests by email from people I don't know. Comment on that blog a few times and email the owner about how much you like it then ask to exchange blogrolls once you have a connection.

Blogroll exchanges are worthless - don't waste your time with them.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. skleiner, you hit the nail on the head. I'm wanting instant results, and since a few bloggers had added me to their blogroll, I was assuming it was that easy for everyone. I'll keep plugging away and try to prove myself a bit more.

@peege it's a long term game. If you try and do it all in 1 day you only harm your chances long term.

Well said Sue!
