I have written previously how free press releases can help you get traffic and search engine authority for blogs and websites because of the back links on high ranking PR websites.

Here's a little story that makes for a good testimonial and it ends with our Animals Need Help blog being mentioned in the local newspaper both online and in print.

It started with a blog post of mine about a local pet walkathon, I figured that it would bring in pet related traffic from our neighborhood and it was for a good charitable cause and would fit with our blogs theme. Here's the post on our blog: Naperville Pet Walkathon

Next I realized there really wasn't much press coverage of this event so why not write a press release about it myself, post it on a free press release site and get some backlinks. Free Press Release

Today a friend of my wife's called to say she had found an article about our blog in the newspaper. It was the same article that I had written, just re-worded a bit. Naperville Sun News

I do like the idea of press releases, and I'm going to try them on my blog soon. Maybe one of them will get picked up by my local paper (considering the rubbish they usually have in there - "Average blogger has average week" is not that bad a story!)

They even send a photographer over to take pictures.
