On my blog (Pariah's Guild: This Is Where You Press Start!) I added a future posts wigdet on my blog so readers can know when they can expect a new post. Is this a smart marketing move on my part, or is it weak?

I've never really seen someone add the widgets like you did, although regular posting is a definite perk. When I clicked through to check out exactly what you were talking about, I had to go specifically looking for the widgets and actually jumped over the future post section the first time. You have so much in your side bar that it's highly unlikely I would've noticed it on my own unless I was an avid reader of your blog already.

It depends from niche to niche. For a celebrity gossip blog, this is the ultimate tool since in "Entertainment Tonight", that's what they do in the last 30 seconds by telling people what to expect in the next show. And because they do, most of the people feel compelled to tune into what they have to say. But in a Technology blog, this could play either for the better or the worse since other people can steal your idea for the most innovative posts that you do. The best thing is to think about how you could possibly be facing a con because of this and checking out some of the big names on your niche for their use of this widget. |
