Default Growing a blog

I started my blog on the 22nd of this month.

When I started it I said I would do it for a year and see where I am at that stage, and that's what I plan to do, give the blog the time to get lots of content and for the search engines to fully index and rank it.

So far of course hits are minimal, I have started posting comments on other tv and film blogs and hopefully in time can build up some 'relationships' on those sites.

But I am struggling to think how else I will get hits, other then Google but that takes time, I won't expect much from them for about 6 months.

It seems like it will be a long and tedious affair, I have confidence in my articles being interesting (hopefully), but I wonder whether it will all be worth it, although I keep saying all it takes is one article to take off, get good backlinks, get good hits etc and everything can change.

Apart from socal networking what other good ways is there to generate interest?

Two things. First, I'm assuming your niche is movie/tv. Make sure to do as much SEO as possible, you can get some hits pretty quickly from there. Other than that, networking is the way to go. Go, post on blogs. Post on forums. Just generally post everywhere you can think of, and make sure you leave your link.

The thing that really put my blog on the map was establishing relationship with A-list bloggers in the niche and asked for guest posting opportunity from them.

Also, don't forget to leverage the power of social media, esp. Stumble Upon.

Make 3-5 posts a day that actually help people and you'll get residual traffic from forum threads. That's a great way in the beginning. Forums are always a large referrer of mine.

Like others suggested, try commenting on other blogs in your niche, and forums. I think it might make it easy if you used a recent posts plugin, or related posts plugin, so when people do come to your blog, they have an easy choice for reading more.

Thanks for the suggestions

I do already comment on other blogs, and I will have a recent posts plugin soon, don't think it is worth it right now as I only have 3 posts up, but when more go up I will add it.

Cheers

And make sure you keep up on the commenting and forum posting.

I found that when I started it was no problem doing these things, but then I got caught up with so many other things that I stopped commenting and forum posting.

I am just now getting back on track and seeing the traffic coming back.

PennyWise,

I've also just started my blog this month. Be patient but be consistant with building traffic.

StumbleUpon has been my greatest source for volume. Forums have been my foundation for consistant traffic.

I post on multiple forums, and usually put my 2 cents into every post. It often makes people want to read your post, and interests them to check out your blog.

Yup post a lot in forums and try to focus on your niche. However if your blog is about Film/TV you can also try to make affiliate with Gaming blogs because readers might be interested by your content. Go check my blog TFGBlog and contact me for more help or support
