This isn't something which is applicable to all blogs, but for some it can really be a nice touch. I've been keeping a Google Earth map of my travels. The map can serve as a front end to my photos and articles in addition to a fun way to navigate content other than a traditional blog format. You have Google Earth installed, you can download the kmz file here. If you don't have it installed (and you really should) you can view it in Google Maps here. Over time I've added my logo, created custom pins, and have put in links to my content. It is a work in progress. My next project is to have a consistent formatting for each pin and to integrate it into the header of my site. If you have any content which is geograpic in nature, you can easily create a Google Earth overlay for content. Just drag and drop pins in Google Earth and save the file. The kml file is just XML. I also created a special map for my Seven Wonders of the Philippines article. Once you get the hang of it, it is easy to create kml files and add embedded maps into your site. All of which can link to your content. |

This is a good idea. It would probably work well with travel blogs and/or sites.
