What's the correlation between yahoo search engine traffic and having a yahoo directory listing. Personally I don't have one and I get very little Yahoo traffic compared to say Google. My question is anyone here listed in the Yahoo Directory and if so how is your traffic from yahoo? If all it takes is a $200 a year or so contribution to the directory to get access to Yahoo's traffic.. I'm in!

I listed my business site (not a blog) for $299 about 4 months ago. I did notice a slight increase in yahoo traffic from the listings. You need to ask yourself how much traffic do I need to make the $299 investment pay off. For my business site the listing is a no-brainer, for my other sites it is a bad investment (for now).

Have you heard of yahoo slurp? One of my clients stats shows very large number of hits via this crawler and yet her blog shows mainly Google and hardly anything of yahoo visiting.

These are made up numbers, but they show how my mind works when it comes to running an ad. I consider the Yahoo directory a 1 year ad. 1000 random visitors that searched for my keywords =10 request for my goods/services =4 appointments to show my goods/services =1 sold project = over $1000 profit On the same note, my industry average is around 10-15% of the total job cost is spent on getting the job (ads). In theory I could afford $700+ per job or with the numbers above 70 cents per click. I can directly credit yahoo with providing me jobs so the $299 is well worth it! For my goof off sites 1000 visitors only provides me with maybe $10 in income from ads. Since my green site is new and is not getting much search engine/keyword traffic yet I can not figure what a "good visitor" is worth yet. At this point paying the $299 would be a gamble for my green site. I might try to have it listed for free (non-business) but I am not sure if they would consider my site as a business if it runs ads. |

Yeah that's a very sizeable investment. You definitely need to make sure it is worth it before you go ahead and have your website/blog listed. Then again, the ad revenue might allow you to cover relatively easy. But hey, who knows until you try?
